Chimney Flue, Repair and Installation.
If you have no chimney in your home, an insulated twin wall system is ideal for a new installation. The flue systems are installed inside or outside of a building. We install this system to allow an open fire or stove to be used where there is part of an existing chimney, or no original chimney in place.
This system has two stainless steel skins with insulation between the two, this allows the flue to be much closer to combustible materials, for example, through loft spaces, joist and rafters. They have a clearance of just 50mm from flammable materials like wooden rafters and joists.
The installation consists of running insulated chimney pipes up through the ceiling and through the roof. The Flue Stestem can also be routed through an outside wall and stacked to the minimum height specified by your building code. Local codes may require you to enclose the flue to insulate it from the elements.
There are a variety of techniques employed for proper flue installation in masonry chimney, including clay tiles, concrete blocks, poured-in-place liners and stainless steel liners. Vitrified-fired clay tile liners are used to create flues in many traditional brick chimneys. Another material used to create flues in modern fireplace chimneys is precast concrete chimney blocks.
Installing an External Twin Wall Insulated Flue System
The installation process involved with an external twin wall system depends entirely on the spec of the house, such as ceiling height, the proximity to a ridge or gable and any local requirements. Any external flue system must go up 600mm vertically before exiting through the outside wall. If at 600mm the flue will exit near to a ridge or gable end then the pipe needs to clear either by at least 600mm again. The situation in which the flue is needed determines the length, direction, and installation process.
